Administrative / Biographical History

Stanley Ceiriog Evans (fl. 1939-1945) was the Chief Air Raid Warden for the Porthmadog area during the Second World War. The Air Raid Warden Service in Caernarfonshire was established in 1937; wardens were required to advise people about the location of shelters, to report bombs and fires in their sector, to check on damage, and to guide the police and fire brigade to incidents. When blackout regulations began to be eased in September 1944, there was a general reduction in ARP activities.
