The collection comprises many varied publications, often individual but there are some short, incomplete series of records (e.g. staff magazines). It contains some rare pamphlets relating to miners' health and welfare, especially regarding pithead baths. Not all the material relates to Nottingham; there are documents relating to to Wales, Scotland and South Africa.
MS672/1: Printed Materials published by Collieries and other Mining Industry Organisations; 1920s-1983. This includes staff magazines, committee minutes, and programmes and pamphlets relating to rehabilitation and pithead baths.
MS672/2: Research, Reports and other Publications relating to the Mining Industry; 1926-1993. A broad range of topics is covered, including industry-related diseases commonly found in miners, the strikes and pit closures, and economics research in mining areas.
MS672/3: Publications unrelated to the Mining Industry; 1929-1993. The publications reflect the fact that the collection was deposited by the Adult Education Department, as many seem to relate to adult education. This might be related to the fact that many miners retrained after the pit closures in the 1980s.
