Scope and Content

Contains: (1) Notes in pencil by James Fitzmaurice-Kelly on meetings of the Senate, Liverpool University, 5 December 1911-25 November 1913 (ff.2-23); (2) 26 letters from Monadero, dated 24 June 1929-15 April 1932, copied out in ink by Mrs Fitzmaurice-Kelly; (3) 9 additional letters from Monadero, dated 23 May-30 August 1932, inserted in a pocket attached to the inside back cover.

Administrative / Biographical History

Julia Fitzmaurice-Kelly, (ne Sanders), a graduate of Newnham, was the wife of James Fitzmaurice-Kelly, who held the Gilmour Chair of Spanish at Liverpool University, from 1908 to 1916, and then the Cervantes Chair of Spanish Language and Literature at King's College, London. She married in 1918, and when, from 1920 onwards, ill-health prevented her husband from lecturing, she was allowed to lecture in his place. Juan Monadero acted as her spiritual adviser
