Administrative / Biographical History

Francis Ysidro Edgeworth was born in Edgeworthstown on 8 February 1845 and died in Oxford on 13 February 1926. He was an economist and statistician who made major contributions to both economic and statistical theory. He was a prolific writer, with a total of more than 500 books, articles, essays, and book reviews, including 'Mathematical physics' and 'Papers relating to political economy'. (Source: Oxford DNB)

Custodial History

The papers were presented by his niece Mrs C. Montagu in 1959 and by David E. Butler in 1978. Supplementary material kindly deposited by Paul Klemperer, Edgeworth Professor of Economics, December 2001.
