Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
John Hector was born in Aberdeen in 1845 and was a United Free Church of Scotland missionary in Calcutta, India. He was educated at the University of Aberdeen and Aberdeen Free Church College. In 1871, he was ordained for foreign mission service and was appointed to Calcutta. He married Margaret Pittendrigh in 1876 and became the pricipal of Duff College, Calcutta, in 1887. Hector was invalided home and reitred from the mission in 1902. He was Duff Lecturer in Evangelistic Theology at the United Free Church Colleges from 1904 to 1905. He died on 19 December 1934.
