Administrative / Biographical History

The Scottish Metal & Plumbers' Merchants' Federation arose from joint meetings of members of the Scottish Plumbers' & Metal Merchants' Associations and the Scottish Federation of Plumbers' & Domestic Engineers' (Employers) Association at the offices of Thomson McLintock & Co , chartered accountants, Glasgow, Scotland, on 17 December 1923  . The meeting was to consider "a new Agreement for Scotland on the lines of the present Glasgow and Edinburgh Agreements" for the purpose of co-operating and strengthening their position with the manufacturers' associations. At the meeting "it was unanimously decided to form a Scottish Federation of Plumbers' Merchants". The first formal meeting of the Scottish Metal & Plumbers Merchants Federation took place on 3 March 1924 when Thomson McLintock were formally appointed secretaries. It was agreed that "the Federation shall deal solely with the questions affecting the general interests of the Plumbers' Merchants in Scotland". The Federation amalgamated with the National Federation of Builders & Plumbers Merchants, London, England, on 1 April 1963  and was officially dissolved on 31 March 1964  .
