Administrative / Biographical History

The Order of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary (OSEH) was founded in about 1916 by Elizabeth Ann Hodges (1869-1960), better known as Mother Elizabeth. The Order, a daughter group of the Confraternity of the Divine Love (CDL), followed a Franciscan-type rule. Its work included running children's homes and evangelistic and retreat work, while from 1929 to 1957 the Sisters undertook mission work in Western Australia. The Order was initially based in London but later moved to Heathfield, Sussex.
