Administrative / Biographical History
John Jones, also known as Talhaiarn, was a poet and architect. He was born in 1810 in Denbighshire and became an apprentice at the age of 15 to an architect. He moved to work to London and was one of the surveyors involved in the construction of the Crystal Palace. He died in 1870.
The Great Exhibition at London's Crystal Palace was opened in 1851 by Queen Victoria. It was a huge trade fair and a celebration of commerce in the British Empire.
