Administrative / Biographical History

This private bank was formed in 1813 to provide services to the local woollen cloth trade. The bank was initially styled Nicholson, Brown & Co. but was known as William Williams, Brown & Co. from 1824; it was otherwise known as Leeds Union Bank. It was acquired by Lloyds Bank in 1900.
