Records of William Williams, Brown & Company relating to the operation of the bank, and its amalgamation with Lloyds Bank, including:

• Establishment (1814): articles of co-partnership;
• Operation (1813-1900): profit & loss ledgers, private memoranda books;
• Amalgamation (1900): amalgamation agreement and schedule of investments at time of takeover.

This private bank was formed in 1813 to provide services to the local woollen cloth trade. The bank was initially styled Nicholson, Brown & Co. but was known as William Williams, Brown & Co. from 1824; it was otherwise known as Leeds Union Bank. It was acquired by Lloyds Bank in 1900.
