Auburn Ephraim Leese Papers

Material, undated but probably created between 1915 and 1950, consists of books of sermons and a play for Christmas, in part manuscript, part typescript. Also includes a biographical note, about Reverend Auburn Ephraim Leese by his wife A.M. Leese, handwritten after his death in 1963.

Reverend Auburn Ephraim Leese was born in Staffordshire in 1886 and was a preacher there before moving from England to the USA where he spent many years as a minister. After two years in a small town in Michigan, he attended the Boston University School of Theology in Massachusetts for three or four years. Following the completion of his course, he spent twenty-five years in Indiana as a minister of either rural or small industrial towns. The last ten years of his ministry were spent in Long Island, New York. In a biographical note contained in the collection, written after his death, his wife, A.M. Leese, describes her husband's views concerning politics and religion as liberal and modern...usually much appreciated by his parishioners.

He and his wife returned to Britain in 1950 and settled in Penrhyn Bay, north Wales. He died in Llandudno General Hospital in 1963.

Material is arranged according to record type and incorporated into the General Collection of Bangor Manuscripts .
