Worked at Bletchley Park with Max Newman during the war, where he met his wife, Margaret Lord. Matriculated at St John's College 1947, PhD 1951. Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh 1968. Fellow of the Royal Society (of London) 1987. Member of the Faculty of Mathematical Sciences, University of Oxford. MA status (Oxon) 1994.
