Administrative / Biographical History

In 1867 the Swinton District Local Board of Health was set up with an area including part of Worsley township. In 1894 this same part of Worsley township was detached to become the separate township of Swinton. In the same year Swinton and Pendlebury District Council replaced the Local Board. In 1933 all the townships, and parts of townships, within Swinton and Pendlebury Urban District were amalgamated into one township called Swinton and Pendlebury township. Swinton and Worsley townships were within the area of Barton upon Irwell poor law Union.
