Scope and Content

Reports, minutes, memoranda, etc. on economic development, Sarawak, 1946-1953, with Governor's addresses to the Council Negri (the Legislative Council), 1951-1953. Handing-over notes relating to service in Sarawak and Kenya, 1949-1959; press cuttings on events in Kenya, 1955-1963; memorandum by Sir Charles Mortimer on the history of land alienation and the policy of reservation of the Kenya Highlands for Europeans, with other papers on land in Kenya, 1935-1958.

Administrative / Biographical History

Robert Frederick Mole (fl 1914-1988) was appointed to the Burma Civil Service in 1937, rising to the rank of Assistant Commissioner in 1938 and Deputy Commissioner in 1945, after a period of war service, 1943-1945. He entered the Colonial Administrative Service in 1947, becoming Principal Assistant Secretary, Sarawak, 1948 and Secretary for Defence, 1949. In 1955 he took the post of Assistant Secretary, Labour and Lands, Kenya. He served as Under-Secretary, Kenyan Government Service, 1957-1963.
