William Richards and his wife Mary were originally from Llandybie, Carmarthenshire, but established their business in Neath in 1864, and had children including Catherine, Mary, Myfanwy, Gomer (born 1874) and Evan. Gomer became a partner in his father's business in 1892 and married Elizabeth Morris in 1899, moving to no. 23 Victoria Gardens, Neath. Elizabeth was the daughter of David and Ann Morris, confectioners and bakers, of 3 Bridge Street, Neath.
