Scope and Content

Simon Wallis and Sarah his wife, Rebecca Jackson, grand-daughters of William Barret of Writtle, deceased, and Richard Lingard and Mary his wife, formerly widow of William Barret agree with Nathaniel Sapsford of Writtle to levy a fine or fines sur cognizance de droit come ceo of certain land in Writtle of which William Barret died seised, such fine to be for the use of Simon Wallis and his heirs until he is paid a certain sum being purchase money for the premises in arrears, afterwards for the use of Nathaniel Sapsford and his heirs, that Sarah Wallis and Mary Lingard may be barred of all dowers which they may claim from the land; subject notwithstanding to certain bequests made by the will of William Barret. Witnesses: Godfrey Thacker, Benjamin Mould, Thomas Bale. On the back is a receipt for the purchase money mentioned signed by Symon Wallis. Witness: John Horsnayle. One seal is attached.
