Scope and Content

Collection of photographs taken by Arthur Norris (1879-1959), who trained as a locomotive engineer and went to South America to work on the contstruction of the railways in Chile, Bolivia and Peru.

The photographs have been organised by country or city, but a large number were taken in unidentified locations. There are also a number of photographs taken during a football (soccer) match played at the highest point at which the railroad was built on the Andes.

Each photograph has been annotated on the back with the location, date and a description of the event captured in the photograph.

The papers are available subject to the usual conditions of access to Archives and Manuscripts material, after the completion of a Reader's Undertaking.

Acquisition Information

Presented by Mrs Muriel Lucas, daughter of Arthur Norris (1879-1959) who worked as a locomotive engineer in South America c1905-1910.
