Small collections and single items 6/1 A pardon from King James I to Thomas Urrey of Thorley, Isle of Wight, 8 June 1604. 6/2 Pre-nuptial marriage settlement: bargain and sale of the manor of Barton Peverell in the parish of South Stoneham, 17 May 1759. 6/3 A small octavo notebook, with paper leaves in a marbled paper cover, containing a mid-18th century copy of the ordinances of the drapers of Andover, Hants, original dated 26 July 1575. The volume is entitled Ordinances of the guilde of merchants in Andevor in the county of Southampton, which guilde is divided into three severall fellowships whereof these are only of the fellowships of drapers. The copy may have been made by a justice of the peace. 6/4 Leather bound volume containing a survey of the manor of Appleshaw, Hampshire, property of James Edwards, Esquire, c.1803. 6/5 Deed of release between Richard North and his trustee, and Charles Butterworth, relating to property at Portsea, Hants, endorsed with a plan of the property, 12 February 1813. 6/6 Share certificate of Isaac Galpin in the Bursledon Bridge and Road Company, 1815. 6/7 'Notitia topographica or descriptive sketches of the scenery of the Isle of Wight': manuscript description of part of a tour of Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Dorset, with contemporary engravings and lithographs, 1840s (including a watercolour of Southampton, 1851). This volume covers only the Isle of Wight and Portsmouth. A further volume from this tour is described as item 227 in George's catalogue 700, Fine and rare books from six centuries (Bristol, 1988) p. 47: 'Notitia topographica; or descriptive sketches of the scenery of the Isle of Wight: and also of the southern coast of England, comprehending notices and illustrations of various parts of Hampshire, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall, being the substance of two excursions made into those parts in the years 1826 and 1828'. This further volume records the tour made in 1828 from London into Somerset, Devon and Cornwall and the the return journey. 'Although the tour was made in 1828 the manuscript itself seems to date from the 1840s and the illustrations are certainly of this period. The printed title-pages and occasional references in the text, indicate that this is the second of two tours undertaken by the author and that there exists, possibly in a similar form, an account of his earlier journey which took him to Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight.' 6/8 A bound volume containing a manuscript 'journal of seven weeks peregrinations at the most beautiful place on earth, namely the Isle of Wight' by Sarah Jane Gilham, 1850. 6/9 Leather bound book with charts and graphs of meteorological observations at Shirley Warren, Southampton, 1863-77. 6/10 Manuscript analysis of iron ore, lignite and water at Sway, Hampshire, by John Attfield, 1866: contemporary copy. 6/11 A volume containing 'Schedule of furniture, etc., at Exbury House near Southampton leased with the residence from Lady Catherine Ricardo to H.B.Webster, Esq.', 23 March 1863. 6/12 A volume containing a catalogue of deeds and papers of the Heathcote estate at Hursley Park, 1868 (continued up to 1909). 6/13 'Index to Hampshire fines', n.d., late 19th century. The fines are given numbers into the 1900s. Indexed by Brodie. It is unclear to what the numbers refer. 6/14 A letter from H.Williams, Quartermaster Sergeant, RAMC, to the John Burns, PC, about military voters at Aldershot, 17 June 1912. 6/15 Papers about the laying of the foundation stone of the Pilgrim Fathers' Memorial, Southampton, 15 August 1912, the form of service for Pilgrim Day, 1913. 6/16 Scrapbook containing photographs, newspaper cuttings, programmes, etc., of Boy Scout and Red Cross activities at Hartley Witney, Hants, 1913-31. 6/17 A volume entitled 'The parish of Rowner in the county of Southampton and diocese of Winchester and an index to its register with other matter relating to its history brought together in this manuscript volume by the Revd F.N.Davis, rector, largely from collections made by the Revd E.S.Prideaux-Brune, rector, 1884-1919, and printed in the parish magazine'. 6/18 A letter from A.U.Austin, Honorary Treasurer, Lymington Convalescent Home, noting the likely disposal of the home under the trust deed as it is in need of extensive repairs before it reopens, 12 April 1926. 6/19 Manuscript of a paper by Reginald W.Hooley, FGS, entitled 'Excavation of an early British site on Worthy Down, Winchester', c.1939. 6/20 Reminiscences of Bishop's Waltham by E.C.M.Pitman, 1976.

The University of Southampton has over the years received, by donation or by purchase, a number of varied single items or very small collections of manuscripts relating to Hampshire and Isle of Wight, which have now been grouped together as MS 6.
