Scope and Content

The volume contains Hopkins's prize poem 'Delphi', 1809, and the anoymous poems 'What ails thee poor shepherd why looks thou so wan', 'Now blushing from the dawn, the orient ray' and 'Vernum aderat tempus, medium Sol igneus orbem', written in other hands. The poem 'Delphi' is inscribed 'English Prize Poem by D. Hopkins June 13th 1809'. The catalogue of Sir Thomas Phillipps manuscripts lists the volume as 'Hopkins's Prize Poems at Rugby School'.
