It consisted of hundreds of gardens, pavilions and exhibits sponsored by companies, charities and universities from Glasgow, the rest of Scotland and beyond. It was organised by the Scottish Development Agency, Glasgow City Council and Strathclyde Regional Council. Glasgow‰??s Garden Festival was the third national event, the first being in Liverpool, England, in 1984  and then in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England, in 1986  .
