Sorell causeway

180 x 103 mm. A mounted print, with a handwritten caption beneath which reads: 'Sorell causeway over the Pittwater (?) River, from the Bluff, Cambridge, Tasmania.' A view looking across the small causeway, along which runs a railway line, towards the Sorell side of the bay. The causeway, which crosses Pitt Water, thus allowing a straight route from Hobart to Sorell and thence on to the east coast of Tasmania, was started at the instigation of Governor Sir William Denison in 1854. It was opened for traffic in 1872.
