This sound collection comprises both broadcast material and oral history interviews. The collection was brought together by Dr Liam McCarthy for various academic research projects he has undertaken. The main themes are South Asian community radio in the UK (2020), American GI soldiers in Leciester during the Second World War (2016), and the National Front in Leicester (2013).

Administrative / Biographical History
Dr Liam McCarthy had a 30 year career as a journalist in the BBC during which he was Managing Editor of BBC Radio Leicester, Sheffield, and Nottingham, and Head of BBC Local Radio Training. He came to study Contemporary History at the University of Leicester in 2010. After undergraduate study he completed his Research Masters on the impact of US soldiers in Leicester in World War Two in 2016 and completed his Midlands Four Cities/AHRC PhD, ‘Connecting with New Asian Communities: BBC local radio 1967-1990’ in 2020.
