Scope and Content

This collection consists of research papers relating to Sudanese legal cases, 1898-1964. Included are the following files of typescripts and xeroxes: 'Index to Sudan legislation since 1954, primary and subordinate' ; 'Index to Sudan cases on personal property, tort and workmen's compensation, 1898-1864' ; 'Notes of cases and the Dun-Francoudi Digest 1915-1926' ; 'An index of Sudanese cases on contract and agency, 1898-1964' ; 'The sources of law in the new nations of Africa: a case study from the Republic of Sudan, Cliff F. Thompson' ; 'Sudan Law Reports (civil), 1900-1925' (1964, 2 volumes); bundle of offprints of David L. Perrott, 'Appendix to Some notes on possession and title in the Sudanese law of personal property, Part II' , Sudan Law Journal and Reports, 1963; research notes on the Insurers (Control) Amendment Act 1964. Most of the collection seems to date during the mid 1960s.

Administrative / Biographical History

David L. Perrott (1936- ) was a lecturer in law at the University of Exeter from 1965-2001. He started as a lecturer in 1965, with qualifications of LL.B (Exon.) and B.C.L. (Oxon), eventually working his way up to Reader in Business Law. He was previously lecturer in private law at the University of Khartoum. He has held the position of legal advisor to the Association of British Chambers of Commerce, and was also a member of the Data Protection Tribunal. He is the author of Current issues in international business law (ed. with Istvan Pogany, 1988) and 'An index of Sudanese cases on agency and contract, 1898-1964' , Sudan Law Journal and Reports, 1965.
