Administrative / Biographical History

Henry Masauko Blasius Chipembere (1930-1974) was founder of the Pan-African Democratic Party of Malawi and Treasurer-General of the Malawi Congress Party. He was Assistant District Commissioner, Domasi, Nyasaland, [from 1954], a member of the Nyasaland African Congress, [from 1954] and of the Nyasaland Legislative Council, [from 1956]. He was Minister of Local Government, Malawi, [from 1963], Minister of Education, [until 1964], and Assistant Professor in History, University of California, Los Angeles, from 1969.
