This collection consists of secretariat records relating to the Anglo-American Telegraph Company.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Anglo-American Telegraph Company Limited operated four transatlantic cables from Ireland and France to Canada and the USA, laid in 1869, 1873, 1874 and 1880. Its managing director was Henry Weaver.

The company entered into a working arrangement with the Direct United States Cable Company Limited and the Compagnie Française du Télégraphe de Paris à New-York but entered into a legal dispute with the latter between 1894 and 1898.
