Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The Executive Committee of the NEEC met for the first time in June 1902 and the first annual conference was held in January 1903, at the Municipal School of Technology, Manchester. The organisation represented individual schools and local authority school boards and was principally the result of the initiative of J.H. Reynolds, who had been appointed secretary to the Manchester Mechanics Institute in 1879. In 1992, a history, The North of England Education Conference 1902-1992 by Peter Gosden, was published by Leeds University Press.
