Scope and Content

This collection comprises two volumes of printed proceedings, recording cases and actions involving James Beaumont Neilson. One volume records the proceedings in the case of J B Neilson and others v. J Harford and others, 1835-1841, and includes a copy of a published paper by Thomas Clark, MD, Professor of Chemistry in Marischall College, Aberdeen, Scotland, entitled "On the Application of the Hot Blast in the Manufacture of Cast-Iron". The second volume records the proceedings in the action of J B Neilson and others v. The Househill Coal & Iron Co , 1842.

Bannatyne, Kirkwood, France & Co, solicitors, were established in Glasgow, Scotland, by 1835  , at which time they numbered amongst their clients, James Beaumont Neilson ( 1782-1865  ), the inventor of the hot-blast process.
