Finngeir Hiorth, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Oslo University. Born in Indonesia in 1928, Hiorth’s parents where Norwegian missionaries with the Salvation Army. Moved to Norway in 1946. Became an atheist at the age of 19. studied linguistics He obtained an M.A. from the University of Oslo and a PhD in theoretical linguistics from the University of Münster, West Germany in 1962. He worked for the University of Oslo Department of Philosophy until 1993. He is a member of the World Union of Freethinkers and the International Humanist Ethical Union
