Miscellaneous papers, 1924-79, relating to the poet, Vernon Watkins and his work, including financial papers and contracts; proofs of Fidelities (1968), I that was born in Wales (1976) and The ballad of the outer dark (1979); notes; reviews and press cuttings; programmes and posters for performances of his work, including papers relating to the 1970 Edinburgh production of the Ballad of the Mari Lwyd; printed material and personal ephemera. Included with manuscripts and papers of Vernon Watkins purchased from Dylans Bookstore, Swansea, in January and August 1983 and in April 1986, the remaining material now being NLW MS. ex MSS 22440-89. Proofs 1945-67, of works by Vernon Watkins, including The lamp and the veil (1945), The ballad of the Mari Lwyd (second ed. 1947), The lady with the unicorn (1948), The death bell (1954), Selected poems (1967), and poems published individually, 1951-9; together with proofs of Landmarks and voices (1957) and Dylan Thomas, Letters to Vernon Watkins (1957). Included with correspondence and papers of Vernon Watkins purchased at Sotheby's auction, 14 Dec. 1989 (Lot 170), the remaining material now being NLW MS. ex MSS 22728-9. Printers' copy and proofs, bearing author's corrections, of the American paperback edition of Vernon Watkins' Selected poems (1966); exercise book containing a few notes in Greek by Vernon Watkins, [1920s]; certificate of Honorary D.Litt awarded to him by the University of Wales, 1966; and photocopies of two press cuttings, 1984, relating to the poet, being letters from Mrs Gwen Watkins. Included with papers of Vernon Watkins purchased from Dylans Bookstore, Swansea, in May 1991 and February 1992, the remaining material now being NLW MS 22841E.
