Scope and Content

The files contain Council papers sent to Solly Zuckerman for information. File SZ/CSP/2 contains: multiple copies of the first, second, and third reports of the Council; Report of the Working Group on Scientific Interchange, HMSO, 1972, Cmnd 4843; multiple copies of A report of a Joint Working Group on Computers for Research, HMSO, 1966, Cmnd 2883; and Report of the Working Party on Liaison between Universities and Government Research Establishments, 1966.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Council was the successor to the Advisory Council on Scientific Policy (to which Series SZ/ACSP refers) and was established in 1965 under the chairmanship of Sir Harrie Massey. A companion council dealt with technology and both operated under the umbrella of the Central Advisory Council for Science and Technology (chaired by Solly Zuckerman and the subject of Series SZ/CACST).
