    • 3 vols (manuscript, carbon) The text is written in a single neat nineteenth-century hand. All 3 volumes are bound in brown leather, which is damaged with the spines to the first two volumes missing, and gilt lettering embossed on that of volume 3 as follows: BISCHOFF'S MEMOIRS OF WOOL VOL. III.

Scope and Content

Comprises a carbon copy of a manuscript of James Bischoff's Memoirs of wool, woolen manufacture and trade, being a continuation of Smith's Memoirs of wool, &c, published in 1765, in three volumes.

Administrative / Biographical History

James Bischoff (1775-1845), author of works on the wool trade, was connected with the woollen trade in Leeds, but subsequently carried on business as a merchant and insurance broker in London. He published works aiming at reform in laws relating to wool. See the Dictionary of National Biography.
