Association of Tuberculosis Care Workers

File regarding constitution, membership and meetings, 1940-1956; Holborn Tuberculosis Care Committee papers, 1950s-60s; files re recuperative holidays and rehabilitation generally, 1950s; National Association for the Prevention of Tuberculosis (NAPT) Bulletin, 1943-1958; continued as The Chest and Heart Bulletin, 1959-1961; small amount regarding the Disabled Persons (Employment) Act 1944.

The Association of Tuberculosis Care Workers was formed in April 1940 with 20 members. In January 1948 the Association of Tuberculosis Care Workers became the Medico-Social Section of the National Association for the Prevention of Tuberculosis. Membership was open to all members of the NAPT professionally engaged in social work for the tuberculous whose names were approved for Section membership by the Committee of the Section. The archive provides evidence for the continuation of the Medico-Social Section until at least 1956.

The National Association for the Prevention of Tuberculosis became the Chest and Heart Association in 1959 and this later became the Chest, Heart and Stroke Association. In 1991 the Chest, Heart and Stroke Association became the Stroke Association and ceased to fund research into chest and heart diseases.
