Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The Brynygwin estate, mainly in Dolgellau and Llangelynnin, Merionethshire, was owned by the Owen family. Robert Owen devised the estate by his will in 1735 to his grandson, Robert Owen the younger, son of his son-in-law, Thomas Hartley Owen, and his daughter Anne. Robert Hartley Owen's heir was his only daughter Jane, who married Hugh Reveley in 1803. On his death the estate passed to his son, Hugh John Reveley (1812-1889), whose heir was his daughter, Fanny Jane. In 1874 she married Edward Petit Jelf, who assumed the surname of Jelf-Reveley.
