Scope and Content

The collection comprises:

A file of correspondence relating to the Museum of Medical Equipment at Queen's Medical Centre, with letters to John Coggins, Medical Librarian, Greenfield Medical Library, University of Nottingham regarding aquisitions and donations of material to the Museum of Medical Equipment and letters to Mr R. G. Bradley, Supplies Officer, Medical School Stores, Queen's Medical Centre regarding similar matters. (HAC/1/1);

Lists of material displayed at the Medical Equipment Museum, photographs of an exhibition of the material and other ephemera relating to the Wellcome Museum of the History of Medicine. (HAC/1/2 - 5)

Files containing notes, correspondence, minutes and memoranda from the Hospital Archives Committee regarding the organisation of material from Queen's Medical Centre and Nottingham General Hospital. Some of this material directly refers to the Department of Manuscripts at the University of Nottingham. (HAC/2-4)

File containing various small items of medical equipment, probably donated to the Museum of Medical Equipment at Queen's Medical Centre, though the majority of this material was dispersed in 2001 by members of the Medical Faculty. (HAC/5)

Register Register of dangerous drugs, recording purchase and supply. It is not clear whether this item belonged to the Museum of Medical Equipment or if it originates from another source. (HAC/6)

Administrative / Biographical History

John Coggins was appointed in 1968 as the founding Medical Librarian for the University of Nottingham Medical School. He retired from the post in 1999 and died in 2007.
