Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Port Sanitary Authorities were introduced in 1872 as an alternative to quarantine in British ports order to prevent the importation of infectious diseases. The Milford Port Sanitary Authority was responsible for health in Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, and had the power to inspect incoming vessels and their cargoes. The Authority also carried out medical inspections on immigrants. The Sanitary Authority was renamed Milford Port Health Authority in 1937 and was based in Milford Town Hall.
Arrangement
Arranged into three groups, by deposit: Group One, minute books, letter books, annual reports, ledgers, government orders and miscellaneous; Group Two, copies of local government board records; and Group Three, minutes, cash books, ledgers and miscellaneous.
