Notes on lectures on Metaphysics and Ethics given at Edinburgh University by Master Robert Lidderdale, taken down by Lawrence Craigie.

  • pp.10-136 Tractato Ethicus [Ethics], completed 14 May 1684.
  • pp.138-157 Physica generalis [Physics], started 20 May 1684 but not completed.
  • pp.191-226 notes on metaphysics [incomplete]. (Written working from end of volume.)
  • p.228 [summary list of theses in metaphysics].

p.5 onwards margin and headers ruled, with occasional marginal annotations in the hand of Craigie. Repaginated in one sequence, sections originally paginated separately.

Administrative / Biographical History

Robert Lidderdale studied at Edinburgh University, gaining his MA and becoming regent of philosophy there. In 1681 he married Helen Pillans, daughter of John Pillans, another regent of philosophy, and they had 5 children.
