Scope and Content

A collection of manuscripts and printed items relating to the formation of canals in the Staffordshire-Birmingham area, 1759-1809. The papers relate to the development of trade and shipping at Hull, Derby, the Grand Trunk Canals, Birmingham and Worcester Canal, and include correspondence and papers of Josiah Wedgewood and John Sparrow.

This collection was acquired with the library of John Corbett of Impney, Droitwich, Worcestershire, Liberal MP for Droitwich, 1874-1875 and Liberal Unionist MP for Mid Worcestershire, 1886-1892.
