Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
After Tom Harrisson's death in 1976, the historian Philip Ziegler took up his interest in the role of the monarchy in British society. The Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977 afforded am opportunity for a modest revival of a Mass-Observation panel of volunteer interviewers. Zielger recruited a small team to record their reactions to the celebrations and David Pocock (then director of the Mass-Observation Archive) commissioned reports of street parties.
