Scope and Content

The collection consists of:

  • Diaries of Harriet Garland Mller, from 1833, three years before her marriage to William Acworth, until her death in 1846. The diaries mainly contain detailed notes of her reading and some studies (including Latin, Greek, Hebrew, Arabic and some Hindi), with an index of books read, at the end of each volume. From 1836 there is more information about her (and her husband's) daily activities
  • Diaries of Harriet Acworth, 1 Jan.-7 Apr. 1846, and of William Acworth, 9-19 Apr., 29 July-31 Dec. 1846
  • Diaries of William Acworth, 1846-96, with an index of books read in most volumes for 1847-1856

Harriet Garland Acworth (d 1846) was the wife of William Acworth (1803-1899), Evangelical clergyman.
