Sir David Salomons Society

The records can be divided into two types. Firstly there are the records produced by the Society for study and information purposes. These include the catalogues, ballooning posters, leaflets, photocopies of information collected, newsletters and journals. Secondly there are the Society's own administrative records comprising correspondence, membership forms, constitution, minutes and financial records.

The Society was a registered charity which was formed in 1981 to promote the lives and achievements of the two Sir David Salomons and to secure the preservation of the buildings and artefacts associated with the family. It also specifically aimed to restore the Welte Pipe Organ in the Science Theatre together with the stage machinery and fittings. The Society was wound up in 2001. Some local interest in the study of the family has been continued by The Southborough Society.

The Sir David Salomons Society undertook a great deal of work in the Memento Rooms including indexing the Salomons Family collection, collecting information about the family and opening the Rooms to researchers and as a museum.
