Album of 'prints of English crafts and trades'

Album, possibly dating from the 1950s, with illustration of a cruise liner on the front. Written on the spine 'Old prints of English crafts & trades'. Contains 29 small coloured prints stuck onto the pages, illustrating people working: wheelwright, jeweller, hat maker, coach maker, confectioner, brewer, baker, saddler, glass blower, potter, ladies' dressmaker, currier, type founder, brush maker, wool comber, calico printer, basket maker, dyer, bleacher, cork cutter, bookseller, copper-plate printer, letter press printer, book-binder, smith, tailor, tanner, gold beater and bricklayer. The style of dress indicates that the illustrations date from the early 19th century.

This album was found among the papers of Robin and Heather Tanner, given to the Crafts Study Centre in 1995. Whether it was put together by the Tanners, or simply acquired by them in its current form, is unknown.
