Scope and Content

This collection contains: FOR accounts, 1998-2003, minutes of Extraordinary General Meeting, June 2003; documents establishing the society in 1973; questionnaires completed by members in 2003.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Fellowship for Operational Research was established in 1973 for former 'A' category members of the Operational Research Society. A majority of the society's then members voted for it to become an open, non-professional body. The Fellowship was formed so that practictioners could have a recognisable professional qualification. Members were either Fellows or Associates, subject to the fulfillment of specific criteria, the chief of which was to have been responsible for the carrying out of major OR projects. The Fellowship was wound up in 2003 when the Society established a professional register of Fellows and Associates, and agreed that Fellows of the FOR could be transferred into the Society's register.
