Scope and Content

Persian letters.

File of miscellaneous letters all in Persian, c.1850, with note inside cover: 'many of which fell into the hands of our troops in the Persian war of 1856.' British forces operated first in the neighbourhood of Bushire then on the Karun river at Muhammarah and Ahwaz before peace was signed in 1857. Some letters are later. Also one letter from a British official source dated AH 1304 or 1306 [AD 1887 or 1889]. Also, two manuscript collections in English and Roman character Persian of idiomatic phrases connected with diplomacy and cavalry duty.
