Scope and Content

The Red Shop was a newsagent, tobacconist and sweet shop owned by Edward Williams. The staff are outside the shop together with a number of soldiers wearing uniforms of the First World War. The three seated female staff wearing lighter-coloured blouses were known as the Arvonia girls. They ran a guest house in Gloddaeth Street. Edward Williams may be the man wearing a hat on the right of the picture. The tall man standing in the middle of the back row may be Joseph Williams.
