Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The Women's Institute Movement in Britain started in 1915. Individual Institutes are self-governing and are grouped into county federations that make up The National Federation of Women's Institutes. The WI encourages women to participate in community life, cultural projects and public campaigns. The Merioneth County Federation of Women's Institute was formed in about 1919 and is still active.
