BOROUGH OF DONCASTER: ROSSINGTON ESTATE RECORDS

By virtue of the letters patent of King Henry VII, dated 14 July 1505, the borough of Doncaster was the owner of the manor of Doncaster. This included the township of Rossington and the advowson of Rossington. In 1835, the total debt accumulated by the corporation was £100,255 3 shillings and on 13 December 1838 the cuncil offered the Rossington estate and advowson for sale by auction to defray the debt. The sale to James Brown raised £92,000 for the estate and £4,100 for the advowson. The printed copy of the report catalogued here was formerly part of the stock of the West Riding County Library, transferred to Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council on local government reorganisation in 1974
