Administrative / Biographical History

Mr S. Ll. Prothero, of Messrs S.R. Dew and Prothero, Solicitors, Valley and Holyhead, Anglesey, deposited this collection which he inherited on buying Treiorwerth at Bodedern, Anglesey. The Wynne Jones family had owned Treiorwerth previously and Mr Prothero bought it from Margaret Wynne Jones, only sister of Lieutenant Morys Wynne Jones (1887-1914). Lieutenant Wynne Jones was born at Caernarfon and was the first Gwynedd man to be killed in the First World War. His father John William Wynne Jones (1849-1928) was Rector of Caernarfon town; his mother Jessie Francis Bruce was the daughter of the first Lord Aberdare. Mr Prothero later sold the house to move to London where he was registrar of a bankruptcy court. Treiorwerth is now part of the Bodorgan Estate.
