Scope and Content

This collection includes copies of 29 speeches given by Chande between 1961 and 2009 on the subjects of business, community service, the environment, Freemasonry, politics and tourism, and copies of his autobiography and collected works:
'A knight in Africa: journey from Bukene' (2008)
'Transitions of a life: collected works by JK Chande' (2011)

Administrative / Biographical History

Jayantilal Chande's father Keshavji emigrated from India to Tanganyika in 1922, where he founded a milling business and commercial house Chande Industries. Chande was born in 1928 and followed his father into the business. Following Tanganyika's independence as Tanzania in 1961, Chande was closely involved in the economic development of the new nation. He has also been active in many charitable and fraternal organisations, including Rotary International and Freemasonry.
