Dr John Thomas, 1821-1892, was a Congregational minister, a politician and a historian. Born in Holyhead, Anglesey, his family moved to Bangor in 1827 and he became an apprentice cobbler.
Whilst in Liverpool he became a member of the Calvinistic Methodist Chapel in Bedford Street, but he soon returned to Wales and changed denomination, becoming a Congregationalist.
From 1854 until his death in 1892, he was the minister for Great Crosshall Street Chapel in Liverpool.
