Scope and Content

25 ms personal letters written by Professor Miles Harris Phillips, and some by his wife, to David Stewart during his obstetric appointments both in Canada and Scotland, including interesting notes on employing an Italian prisoner of war as a gardener (1946), difficulties of food rationing, his research into medical history, discussion of obstetrical terms, and pleasure at receiving parcels of 'luxuries' from Canada; together with a black and white photograph of Professor Miles Phillips with fellow obstetricians Dr Herbert Spencer and Dr Hanck of Copenhagen, taken in Holland in 1939.

Administrative / Biographical History

These letters were written to David Stewart FRCOG by Professor Miles Harris Phillips following Stewart's return to Canada after serving with the Canadian Air Force in Pembroke at the end of the Second World War. Stewart had been put into contact with Phillips by the College, who became something of a mentor and the relationship continued during Stewart's appointment as registrar at the Aberdeen Maternity Hospital under Professor Dugald Baird.
