Administrative / Biographical History

Nefyn, situated on the southern coast of the Lleyn peninsula, is only one town of many in north Wales where ships were built. According to David Thomas in Llongau Sir Gaernarfon, Nefyn, between 1789 and 1810 nearly stopped building ships altogether, probably because of a shortage of timber. No information regarding the ships in this collection was available at time of compilation of description.
